Previous Name: Peeta Mellark
Myth: The Hunger Games
Past Life Information: A baker's son from the struggling, dystopian region of District 12, Peeta's name was drawn to participate in the 74th Hunger Games -- a longstanding punishment for a people's uprising in which 2 children from each 12 districts were brought to a playing field and forced to fight to the death. Peeta's fellow District 12 competitor was Katniss Everdeen, who had been in love with since he was a little boy; it was his idea to fake a romance for the games cameras and coverages to make them more sympathetic to audiences -- giving them a stronger chance of survival. Of course, Peeta's love was real, even if Katniss's wasn't quite. They were thrust into a kill or be killed situation they had never asked for. Still, they managed to break the system of the Games and both survive, but Capitol forces couldn't abide this rebellion. Their 'romance' was used against them as propaganda; they were forced to fight in another games (an all-victors games) that ended with no victor; Katniss started a revolution; Peeta was kidnapped by the Capitol, tortured and beaten, and brainwashed to fight against the people and against Katniss, the love of his life. That's some real trauma, right? It left a mark, and good-hearted Peeta became suspicious, unsure, sometimes violent, sometimes without speech. He had no idea what was real. Eventually, with help and time, it gets better. Katniss, finally, loved Peeta back, and they could forge a life together in the new reality they'd sacrificed so much to live for. Peeta's flashbacks never went away, but there was hope and stability. He and Katniss had two children: a son and a daughter.
Current Name: Jonah Beecroft
Age: 28
Occupation: Yoga instructor
Personality: Life is precious, man. Have you tried using a crystal to channel your intentions and open up your heart chakra? Don't hurt the spider, it's part of the great rich tapestry of the universe. Jonah is gentle and a little eccentric and deeply, deeply avoidant: he lives in the crease between secular and spiritual worlds because he feels safe there, connected to something bigger than himself. He's nice to a fault, positive and encouraging. He has some charm, and his classes are extremely popular because he has a knack for making people feel better, even if they're not quite sure how he does it. He's a force for good in this world, a low-key positive figure. Of course, to some, this is the most annoying thing in the world. And sometimes he hides in vagaries and alternative methods to avoid confrontation or difficult things. But the thing is: he means so well.
Background: Jonah was born and raised in northern California. He was an aimless, dreamy child, but also an anxious one, and he was afraid of the dark, the water, shadows, other kids, you name it. He struggled with making friends and experiencing the world. He's been on anti-anxiety meds for a very long time. When he graduated high school, the idea of dealing with college was the most unappealing, terrifying thing -- and his life still had no direction -- so Jonah bought an old car and drove across the country instead, just to see it. Just to be on his own. When the car broke down in New Orleans, he took it as a sign and stayed put. He started going to yoga classes and making a couple of friends, and when he became an instructor himself, he felt finally like he understood himself, and had a place for himself, in the world. He's soft-spoken and tentative, but strong, and when he teaches, he feels like his best self.
